218 Escapes is a family owned and operated vacation rental company. Paul & Suzanne Baker grew up spending their time on Minnesota lakes until in their college years, when their respective family lake cabins were sold. This left Paul and Suzanne with no lake place to visit in the summer and this was not an exciting option when they’d been so accustomed to spending summers “at the lake” with family and friends. After searching the area for several years, in 2009 they found their new lakes getaway in Detroit Lakes, MN where they have spent most of their time since.

Paul had an interest in real estate, lake homes, and recreational property so he got licensed as a Realtor in Minnesota and North Dakota in 2011. So with a primary home, a lake cabin, and 3 young children they stayed super busy, but continued to enjoy summers boating, swimming, fishing, and enjoying the Detroit Lakes area. Beginning in 2017, they realized that so many friends, family, and real estate clients wanted to be on the water as well, that they started 218 Escapes to bring new visitors to the lakes and to help make other families’ summer lake home dreams come true. Now each summer, vacationing guests return to the Detroit Lakes area for the sunsets, bonfires, and memories made on the water. Some guests even love it so much they make the investment and purchase their very own vacation property!

218 Escapes has grown to include numerous vacation lodging accommodations located throughout Minnesota, as well as private homes and cottages available for rent throughout the western Minnesota lakes country. Whether you’re looking for a cozy cabin nestled in the woods or a beach-front cottage within steps of the lake, 218 Escapes has something for everyone.
